The Block Center’s young people, mentors, family members, and community supporters met today at the Troy Boys and Girls Club for their 2nd Annual Holiday Growth Celebration. The Block Center is proud to have completed its first full year of programming in 2016, and is looking forward to even bigger and better things in 2017!
The event was generously catered by Ninety-Nine Restaurant of Clifton Park. All mentees in attendance received a certificate of achievement and a new hooded sweatshirt featuring the program’s logo and values. Thanks to our co-founder Jennifer Livingston, who worked tirelessly to set up the event. Thanks to all of our mentors, mentees, and extended family members who volunteered their time to help out.
The Block Center’s program coordinators announced that we will be partnering with Troy City School district to bring 15-20 of our young people to Washington, DC for a three-day field trip in June 2017. We are launching a fundraising campaign to help out with the expenses of the trip. Please consider donating today!
The program will go on winter break for about one month after the Tuesday, Dec. 20th session. Social Justice Team will continue to meet on Wednesdays during the break, to plan for our Don’t Block the Truth: Promoting Nonviolence event on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 16th from 2:00-4:00 PM at the Troy Boys and Girls Club.
The Winter/Spring session of The Block Center will begin the first week of February. We plan to bring a group of our young people to see the Harlem Globetrotters at the Times Union Center in Albany on Sunday, Feb. 5th, and our first weekly meeting will be on Tuesday, Feb. 7th.
Thanks to everyone for your contribution to a fun and fulfilling Fall session!
